Trust in the Spirit, Not in Your Own Strength

Revelation 14:1-20

Psalm 142:1-7

Proverbs 30:21-23

Zechariah 4:6 says:

“So he answered and said to me: ‘This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: “Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the Lord of hosts.’”

How often in life do we trust in our own strength instead of being led by the Holy Spirit within us? We say that we have faith and will put our trust in God, but how often do we actually live that out?

When you accepted Jesus into your heart as Lord and Saviour you didn’t only receive God the Father and Jesus, but also the Comforter; the Holy Spirit who dwells in you. When you trust, act and move according to the way the Spirit leads, you will discover that it doesn’t require force or strength to see God’s plan worked out in your life. The times I feel the favour of God most are when I stop trying to force things and instead trust in Him.

The day I received my training contract to qualify as a solicitor I had walked into work and said to my friend, in faith: “Today is the start of my legal career.” She laughed! However, I was offered the job that afternoon!

God doesn’t want us to struggle or fight to obtain the blessings He has for us. He wants us to live out our faith, trusting that His promises are true. When our faith is pure and intentional God shows up.

Pause and reflect: Is there something you are praying and hoping for? Instead of worrying or pursuing it in your own strength, I encourage you to hand it over to God and allow His Spirit to guide you. Rest in His goodness today and know that His Spirit is at work within you. God is there in your situation.
