The Only Place of Safety
So many of us struggle to understand the book of Revelation and find much of the detail confusing, but today’s reading tell us there are terrible evil forces dedicated to defeating the Christian Church. We are facing warfare! We are not civilians but soldiers on the battlefield!
When Jesus died on the cross he defeated the ultimate purposes of Satan, but He left behind a wounded foe who is still intent on destroying all that is in the heart and mind of God. Satan’s hatred of God, of all that He has done in creation and of His great love for His people, has never been abated.
The psalmist knew where his protection in the battle came from when he said:
“Lord, I cry out to You; Make haste to me! Give ear to my voice when I cry out to You” (Psalm 141:1).
He knew his enemies were out to destroy him. However, he also knew the secret to overcoming the spiritual warfare all God’s children face:
“But my eyes are upon You, O God the Lord; In You I take refuge; do not leave my soul destitute” (Psalm 141:8).
The good news is that even though there is an adversary who seeks to undo all that God has planned, he is defeated! Zechariah 3:2 tells us that when Satan sought to oppose Joshua:
“…the Lord said to Satan, ‘The Lord rebuke you, Satan!’…”
God is on our side! And more than that, He makes certain that people are still forgiven of their sins so they can become His sons and daughters. As with Joshua, He takes away our iniquities and clothes us with garments of righteousness.
Pause and reflect: Read what Ephesians 6:10-18 has to say about spiritual warfare and be prepared for it, remembering that God is on your side.
