Hebrews 11:13-16 says:
“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them… Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.”
Hebrews 4:14-16 tells about our compassionate High Priest, who has passed through the curtain. He faced temptation as we all do, but He did not sin. He is able to sympathise with our weaknesses, and He promises that by faith we can come boldly to the throne of grace to receive help in time of need.
Hebrews 11 teaches about the ancient heroes of faith. Abel offered a more excellent sacrifice than his brother Cain; Enoch was taken away and did not experience death; Noah trusted God and built the ark long before rain appeared; and Abraham and Sarah received God’s promise of a child in old age.
Hebrews 11:6 says:
“Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”
Many centuries later Jesus tells His disciples not to let their hearts be troubled, but to believe in Him because He has prepared a place for them. In John 14:3 He says:
“…I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.”
How comforting His words are. We will not pass through the curtain of death alone; our Saviour promises that He will come and take us to the place He has prepared for us in heaven. How awesome is that?
Pause and reflect: We are surrounded by people who don’t yet know Christ. Pray that He will prepare hearts and open doors of opportunity for you to witness each day.
