Walk Worthy of God

by Richard Reed

Start by reading…Jeremiah 14:11 - 16:151 Thessalonians 2:9 - 3:13Psalm 80:1-19Proverbs 25:1-5

When my first son was twelve months old he started to walk of sorts. He would hold on to the furniture and walls and basically walk around the edge of the room. After a few months he dived across the room without holding on to anything! As a parent it was an awesome moment.

In 1 Thessalonians 2:12 we read:

“That you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.”

God is asking us to walk in a different way. He is asking us to walk worthily. This doesn’t mean we walk perfectly, which is something we all struggle with. Only Christ is perfect. He walked the earth and understands the struggles we go through every day. God wants us to walk under His grace and mercy. Walking worthy of God is to walk humbly and with gentleness, being patient and making allowances for other people’s faults because of God’s love.

As we walk worthily we should make choices based on what God is saying rather than our own selfishness and desires. Understand that there is a calling on your life. We are God’s diplomats here on earth, which means we are to demonstrate the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed.

Proverbs 16:9 says:

“A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.”

As you start your day, allow God to direct your steps. Decide to walk worthily, and remember that he is calling you into His eternal kingdom.

Pause and reflect: “Lord, help me to understand how to walk worthily today. As I walk, may your grace and mercy be upon me. Help me think of others and not myself. Help me be an ambassador of the gospel in all that I say and do. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
