A Picture of Christ and the Church
I have been married for 27 years and can honestly say that outside of becoming a Christian it’s the best thing I’ve ever done. My wife is my best friend. We laugh together, cry together, serve together and live our lives as one. When we chose to get married we needed to be sure it was right as we were about to spend the rest of our lives together.
In the final chapter of Ezra the Israelites come before God to ask forgiveness for marrying pagan wives. We are also warned of sexual immorality in 1 Corinthians 6. How often do we just do what we want and forget the purposes of God for our lives? Are we distracted by the things of this world?
Ephesians 5:31-32 says:
“‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.”
Marriage should not be entered into lightly. It’s a picture of the Church; Christ and his bridegroom. For those who are already married, don’t take your spouse for granted. Invest in your marriage as it will be time well spent as you grow in Christ together.
If you are not married concentrate on being the best that you can be for Christ. Don’t be distracted by the world. If you want to marry, God’s purpose and plan for your life will open the door. Don’t try to force one open.
Pause and reflect: If you are struggling in your marriage, know that God is for you and your marriage. Pray that Christ will become the centre of it. If you are single, don’t put pressure on yourself. God knows your heart. Allow him to work His purposes in your life.
